Our Services
Internal Medicine
Insightful. Comprehensive. Precise.
IM consultations are available to help with difficult to diagnose cases, as well as for ongoing management of chronic illnesses. We will work with you to provide comprehensive care for pets with complex health issues.
Ultrasound
Real-time. Non-invasive. Rapid results.
We also offer mobile abdominal, thoracic (non-cardiac), and ventral cervical (thyroid/parathyroid) ultrasound services. This can be a stand-alone diagnostic test or paired with an internal medicine consultation based on the individual needs of each pet.
Diagnostic Procedures
Getting a definitive diagnosis.
Making a diagnosis isn't always easy, but we are here to help. We can perform many minimally invasive diagnostic procedures such as:
-
US-guided FNAs for cytology
-
bone marrow aspiration & biopsy
-
US-guided abdominocentesis & thoracocentesis

How to Prepare for a Visit
Patient Arrival
Aim to have your patient arrive 30-60 minutes before their appointment. This helps give them time to adjust, as well as to allow for assessment and planning for anxiolysis if needed.
Anxiolysis
While we know ultrasound is non-invasive, it can be a stressful process for our pets. We advocate for a fear-free experience and encourage pre-appointment anxiolysis (such as trazodone and/or gabapentin), or mild sedation when needed. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Client Education
An ultrasound takes 20-40 minutes depending on the area of interest, how amenable the pet is and whether sedation is needed. The fur will need to be shaved from the imaging field to allow for optimal visualization.
Results will be available within 24 hours, though a verbal report will be given at the time of the procedure.
About Us
Our Story
Dr. Julie Walter earned her DVM degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2011. Following that she completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, PEI. She remained at the AVC for a 3-year Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency, during which she concurrently completed a Master's of Veterinary Sciences degree.
Since completing her residency in 2015, Dr. Walter has been working as an internist in a specialty referral practice in the GTA. While Dr. Walter loves working directly with her patients and their families, she is very excited for the opportunity to make specialty care more accessible and to build relationships with primary care practices. Dr. Walter enjoys teaching and looks forward to working with you to help manage chronic IM cases.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Walter enjoys the outdoors, skiing, and spending time with her family, including her husband and daughter, senior Lab (Emmett), 2 cats (Clementine and Peach), and 4 budgies (Sprout, Blueberry, Olive, and Lemon).
